Eastern Archipelago Ideation Workshop Charts New Course for the District

4 August 2026
Members of the District of the Eastern Archipelago gathered at the Read Masonic Centre on
Sunday, 2 August 2026, for a full-day ideation workshop themed “Strengthening the District,
Shaping the Future.” A total of 49 brethren from across the District came together for a day of
guided discussion, teamwork, and action planning.
The event opened with an address by the District Grand Master, RWBro Mahathir Mahzan, who
outlined six key Focus Areas guiding the District’s development, namely Membership, Learning and
Development, Mentoring, Branding and Communication, Charity, and Masonic Hall Boards.
Brethren then reflected on Freemasonry’s core purpose and the District’s vision through open group
discussion, before assessing the District’s current strengths and gaps in a structured team exercise.
Throughout the day, participants were organised into teams, each aligned to one of the six Focus
Areas, guided by six coaches comprising RWBro Mahathir Mahzan, WBro Ramesh Rajaratnam,
WBro Nathan Kandapar, WBro Raji Ramason, WBro Karunamoorthy, and WBro Koshy Mathen.
The morning built toward a lively Gallery Walk, where teams shared ideas and voted on the
proposals that resonated most, before a series of icebreaker activities kept energy and engagement
high.
The afternoon centred on defining what success for DGLEA should look like by 2030 within each
Focus Area, before teams translated their vision into concrete action plans with clear owners,
timelines, and KPIs. The day culminated in team presentations before a panel comprising RWBro
Dato Jeyaraj Ratnaswamy, VWBro Dato Rajasegaran, VWBro Dr Yeoh Sin Hock, WBro Dato Dr
Sivanesan, WBro Dr Nirmal Singh, and WBro Jayapalasingam, who offered feedback on each
team’s plans.
The ideas generated will not end with the workshop. Each project arising from the day will be
formally submitted to a committee for deliberation and approval before moving into execution.
Every approved project will be assigned a proposer and a project manager, with regular check-ins
built into the process to ensure steady progress. This structure reflects the District’s commitment to
turning the day’s ideas into lasting action, rather than allowing them to remain proposals on paper.
Special thanks go to the brethren who travelled from Singapore, Thailand, Sabah, and other states
across Malaysia to take part in the workshop.
The workshop was led by WBro Ramesh Rajaratnam, assisted by WBro Gurunathan Nagappan and
Bro Arivin. The District Grand Master closed the day with remarks thanking all involved, before
brethren gathered for dinner and fellowship, closing out a day that left many energised and united
around a shared vision for the District of the Eastern Archipelago’s future.
